The cornerstone of successful treatment is supplementation of the lacking steroid hormone synthesis . Usually, this is done by daily dosing of fludrocortisone replacing the lacking aldosterone synthesis and hydrocortisone, prednisone or cortisone acetate to replace the lacking mineralo- and glucocorticosteoids. These drugs are taken orally. In case of Addison´s crisis, injectable corticosteroids are needed (Solu-Cortef). Dehydroepiansdrosterone (DHEA) can be used to replace the lacking sex-steroid synthesis.
